U.S Federal and State of California Income Tax Preparation

CIG offers tax preparation services for both Federal and California income taxes.  Initial and ongoing consultation to minimize your tax liability and complete your return is free.  CIG charges a flat fee based on processing time.  This fee starts at a minimum $85 for the first hour, and then increases by $35 for each additional half hour.

Naturally, more complex returns require more time.  A return with itemized deductions such as mortgage interest for homeowners uses Schedule A, and most likely increases processing time to a minimum of 1 and 1/2 hours, or $120. 

Income taxes are filed electronically for free with the IRS and the California Franchise Tax Board.  This provides clients with proof that the tax return has been received and approved.  Clients can then expect their return in about two weeks. 

CIG strongly advices all tax payers to reject any offers for Refund Anticipation Loans, which essentially is a short term loan against your tax refund, regardless of whichever tax preparer you choose.   Interest on such a loan can be well over 100%.   If you need such a loan, you probably have a cash flow problem.

· CIG / John Chu is a registered tax preparer for California through the California Tax Education Council (www.ctec.org). 

· A registered tax preparer must initially complete 60 hours of study on U.S Federal and California income taxation and pass an exam. 

· CTEC registered tax preparers must complete an additional 20 hours of study every year. 

· By law, the tax preparer must obtain a $5,000 surety bond, which provides an additional layer of protection for a client in a dispute.

· CIG / John Chu is an authorized e-file ERO (Electronic Return Originator) provider with the IRS and California Franchise Tax Board
